About
Bridge Builder.
Quiet Transformer.
I walk into siloed organizations and create connection without forcing it.
My story
I'm Garrick Gibson.
I'm a digital experience strategist with 20+ years leading design and brand work across healthcare, insurance, and consulting. In the last year, I've helped three major supplemental insurance carriers launch effective member portals, and led a full brand identity refresh for Sydney Consulting Group. What I've found is that the real work happens internally. Aligning cross-functional teams around the people a system or a brand is actually meant to serve.
I started in human-centered design at Florida Blue, where I spent years working with real people navigating complex healthcare decisions. That's where the HCD practice was formalized. Where I learned that the most important user is usually the one nobody drew a persona for.
"I keep finding what got left out. The user the product forgot. The system a brand needed but never got around to building. Field workers, caregivers, administrators, teams building content without a shared standard to check it against. That's not a coincidence. That's how I'm wired to look at problems."
At CVS Health, I served as Experience Design Train Lead for chronic condition management, leading a team of six product designers responsible for the digital experience of kidney patients across the full course of their disease. Partnering with UX research and content strategy, I surfaced caregiver insights that reshaped a product roadmap before a single feature shipped. At Sydney Consulting Group, where I lead design across both the consulting practice and our TPA business line, Sydney Administrators, I've been building design culture from scratch: embedding HCD methodology across a non-design organization so the process is repeatable and understood across functions.
What drives me: seeing every person, regardless of demographic, fully understand and use the benefits they're paying for. It's the same instinct behind the brand work: building a system people trust the moment they see it, not just one they can use. That's not a tagline. It's the reason the work matters.
How I work
Design isn't a service I deliver.
It's infrastructure I build.
Research First
Every project starts with understanding who the product forgot. Stakeholder conversations, community-based research, journey mapping. Before a single wireframe.
Aligned Execution
Concepts don't survive implementation by accident. I stay close to execution, review constantly, and hold the standard because the person on the other side of the screen deserves it.
Culture Building
The goal is a process repeatable and understood across functions. Not dependent on me being in the room. Design as infrastructure, not a service.
